BOTOX / ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTIONS DUNDONALD, CASTLEWELLAN, COMBER
WHAT IS BOTOX?

Botox, much like Hoover, is a brand name. We commonly use the term "botox" when we refer to Botulinum Toxin Type A anti-wrinkle injections.

In the UK there are only three licensed and FDA-approved brands of Botulinum Toxin Type A: Botox, Bocouture and Azzalure. At Aesthetics by Dr Victoria we ONLY ever use these toxins. Brand selection depends on patient’s goals and the areas treated and will be discussed at consultation.

HOW DOES BOTOX WORK?

Botulinum Type A when injected into muscles TEMPORARILY relaxes them which helps prevents the skin overlying them creasing, stretching and forming wrinkles. Much like when we repeatedly fold a piece of paper, it develops creases- when we fold our skin over years and years of facial movements, the skin develops lines which can cause a tired or aged appearance.

Botulinum toxin is a prescription-only medication and should only be administered by trained medical practitioners. All treatments legally require a prescriber ( doctor, dentist, prescribing nurse or pharmacist) to meet patients face-to-face for a consultation before writing a prescription for that patient.

WILL ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTIONS MAKE ME LOOK FAKE?

Often patients are worried they will look “frozen” or fake with anti-wrinkle injections. This is not the case when treated by a reputable, experienced aesthetic practitioner who has a deep understanding and appreciation of the anatomy. The results of anti-wrinkle treatment generally lasts 3-6 months, but this will vary from patient to patient.

A consultation must be carried out before all treatments, which is completed on the day. Patients also are offered a complimentary review at day 14-21 post treatment to ensure patient satisfaction and optimal treatment outcome!
AREAS TREATED WITH BOTOX/ ANTI-WRINKLE
BOTOX FOR LINES AND WRINKLES
Areas commonly treated to reduce lines and wrinkles in the face include: forehead (which much be treated with the frown), frown, bunny lines on nose, crow's feet, pebbled chin. Injections can also be used for a subtle "mini brow lift" to lift the tail of the brow APPROX 1-3MM.
GUMMY SMILE AND DOWNTURNED SMILE
Careful treatment of specific muscles around the nose and mouth can reduce two common complaints by patients- gummy smiles and sad smiles.

Gummy smile treatment reduces the amount of upper gum on show.

Reducing the pulling or dragging effect of the DAO muscle on the mouth helps reduce marionettes, nasolabial folds and gives a more youthful smile. Downturned corners of the mouth are reduced and gives a "happier", less sagging expression.
BOTOX FOR TEETH GRINDING/ CLENCHING & JAW SLIMMING
Treatment of the masseter muscles on either side of the face reduces teeth clenching and grinding which often contributes to headaches and migraines. Treatment of the muscle also reduces its bulk (muscle like when you stop lifting weights at the gym) which makes the jaw less bulky and can make the lower face appear slimmer.
BOTOX LIP TREATMENTS
Botox around the lip and mouth area can give a subtle increase on the amount of lip in show "lip flip" as a subtle alternative to lip filler. Lipstick lines or smokers lines can also be reduced and prevented around the mouth area with anti-wrinkle injections.
BOTOX FOR JOWLS AND NECK LIFT "NEFERTITI NECK LIFT"
Injections along the jawline and into the platysmal muscle bands in the neck help reduce these muscles pulling down on the lower face. This gives a "lifted" effect and can reduce jowling and add definition the jawline. It also helps reduce strong neck bands on show in slim patients which can age the neck- "the Deirdre Barlow neck".
BOTOX FOR HYPERHYDROSIS/ EXCESSIVE-SWEATING
When injected under the arms to target apocrine sweat glands, toxin can reduce sweating for 3-9 months.
